October 20, 2010 | Veterans in the Denver-Boulder area had a chance to meet local employers and learn about veterans’ benefits at Center Green on October 19. The idea for the job fair, which was co-sponsored by UCAR and Workforce Boulder County, was hatched last spring when HR was looking for ways to reach out to veterans.
“We hit upon the idea of sponsoring a job fair, since we have such a great venue,” says Nancy Wade (HR). “This was one tangible way that we could focus on the local population and have a positive impact on the community.”
About 175 veterans attended the job fair. Representatives from UCAR, Abound Solar, Alpine Lumber, University of Colorado, G4S Wackenhut, Express Employment Professionals, National Ecological Observatory Network, and Ball Aerospace gathered in the CG auditorium to talk about available and upcoming positions. Workforce Boulder County was on hand with information about veterans’ benefits and available services, and a handful of UCAR/NCAR staff volunteered their time to the event.
The fair received positive feedback from both employers and job seekers, according to Nancy, and HR hopes to make it an annual event.
