March 12, 2013 | Expanding on the first set of talks in December 2012, the second UCAR & NCAR Science Discovery Day on March 1 showcased a range of exploration under way at NCAR and UCP. Presentations ranged from NCAR's instrumentation offerings to a look at weather- and climate-related hazards, prediction capabilities at the seasonal and year-to-year level, some of the organization’s educational programs, and more.

March 1, 2013 | After scoring a success at NSF in November, a group of NCAR scientists and students reprised their poster presentations at Center Green for the UCAR Board of Trustees on February 27. The lunchtime session, which was open to all staff, took place prior to the start of the two-day February board meeting.

February 21, 2013 | Over 100 people filled Center Green's south auditorium on January 25 to hear the perspectives of 10 NCAR women scientists and to share their own strategies and experiences. “Where NCAR Was and Where We Are Going: A Conversation with Female Scientists,” was moderated by Maura Hagan, who takes the reins as NCAR interim director on February 25.

February 14, 2013 | The UCAR President’s Office and NCAR Directorate are pleased to announce a new opportunity targeted at bringing NCAR and UCP science and engineering expertise directly to our university partners. The program, titled UVISIT (University Visits in Scientific Interaction and Teaching) provides support for our scientists and engineers to spend time in residence at U.S. universities for collaborative research, teaching, lectureships, workshops, and similar activities.

February 5, 2012 | This spring Roger Wakimoto will be eyeing cherry blossoms instead of cottonwood blooms. Roger came to NCAR in 2005 from the University of California, Los Angeles, to head up EOL. In 2010, he succeeded Eric Barron as NCAR director.

January 9, 2012 | NCAR and UCAR staff will soon be able to get notices of weather closures, power outages, and other short-fuse emergency situations via text message on their cell phones. That's one of several notification modes made possible by a new emergency notification system acquired and managed by Safety and Site Services, which is part of UCAR Finance & Administration (F&A).
