Google Apps helping researchers share data with colleagues

UCAR’s recent adoption of Google Apps for Government has made sharing data with colleagues easier for researchers. After copying their data to Google Drive, researchers can share easily with colleagues virtually anywhere.

To share data from Yellowstone, users can move their files from GLADE file systems to Google Drive. The process for moving GLADE files to Google Drive and some alternatives are described here.

Google Drive supports files as large as 10 GB. UCAR users’ default Google Apps quota is 30 GB, shared between Google Drive and Gmail. To share larger data sets, consider using the NCAR Data Sharing Service.
