FMS&S will be repairing and replacing the asphalt parking surfaces at the Center Green Campus beginning October 18. Construction will be completed in five (5) phases to allow parking access to other areas of the parking lot during the project. 

Project Phasing

Phase 1:  Replacement of the asphalt Parking Lot at CG2.
Phase 2a:  Repairs to the West portion of the concrete parking lot (closest to the railroad tracks). 
Phase 2b:  Repairs to a portion of the concrete parking lot located in front of Logistics in CG3.
Phase 2c:  Repairs to a portion of the concrete parking lot located between CG1 & CG2 (Main Drive).
Phase 2d:  Repairs to the main driveway leading into the CG1 parking structure.  The parking structure will be closed on a Friday and reopened the following Monday morning.

Schedule

The entire project is expected to take six weeks to complete.  Phase 1 and 2a of the project are  scheduled to begin on Wednesday, October 18th (after 10:00 a.m.).  All construction schedules are dependent on weather conditions and subject to change. Because of this, subsequent scheduling information will be posted on Staff Notes prior to the start of each phase. 

Other Considerations

  • Please obey all traffic control personnel, signs and barriers and exercise additional caution. 
  • Staff will notice some construction noise and minimal vibration during construction activities.  
  • Since parking will be restricted during each phase of the project, we are encouraging staff to use UCAR’s shuttle services whenever possible.
  • The basement level of the parking structure routinely has open parking spaces available.  We encourage staff to use these during construction.

Mark your calendars for UCAR's 2017 Free Onsite Seasonal Flu Vaccination Clinics, offered through Passport Health. This event is open to UCAR employees, their spouses/partners and dependent (adult) children 18-26 years of age and retirees. For dependent children under 18 years of age, please consult their healthcare provider(s) for these services.

Seasonal flu vaccinations are free to eligible participants. For questions on whether the vaccine is appropriate for you or a family member, please contact your healthcare provider.   Please note that Flumist is not available for the 2017-2018 flu season.  The traditional trivalent flu vaccine will be available onsite this year.  It offers protection against three flu viruses that are expected to circulate throughout the flu season.

Vouchers: Eligible participants who cannot attend any of the on-site clinics can schedule an appointment for the seasonal flu vaccination at any of the Passport Health Facilities listed below.  UCAR employees visiting the Boulder Passport Health location must show their employee ID/access card.  No voucher is needed for the Boulder Passport Health location. Vouchers are required for all other eligible participants and for everyone visiting any other Passport Health location listed below. Vouchers are ONLY valid at these select Passport Health locations and can be redeemed any time between October 1 - December 31, 2017 (or while supplies last).  For more information or to request a voucher, contact Laurie Carr, x8702.

If there is not a scheduled event in your area OR you miss the scheduled Flu Shot Event in your location and there is no local Passport Health location, flu vaccines are available through all UCAR health insurance plans as preventive care and paid at 100%.

Effective Monday, October 9, off-peak shuttle service will be reduced from every 30 minutes to hourly between 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. During these off-peak times, shuttles will depart Foothills on the hour, and the Mesa Lab on the half hour.

Shuttle service during peak hours, 6:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., remains unaffected by this change.

Shuttle users are encouraged to download the Shuttle Tracker App to monitor current shuttle locations.

FLA’s Black Bag service will reduce from 11 to 5 stops daily. Black Bag service at Mesa Lab and Foothills Lab will be hourly during off-peak hours (10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), the same as the shuttle service. Black Bag services at CG will remain unchanged with 3 stops per day.

In addition, UCAR will be terminating the leases on two GSA vehicles. Four vehicles remain available to staff for short-term use.

UCAR Human Resources is excited to announce a new best practices one-day training program and cohort project for all managers and supervisors. Essential People Management will run quarterly (every January, April, July, and October).

Program Purpose:
Through each quarterly cohort, supervisors will learn current best practices, including:

·      Legal Implications of Managing

·      Managing Diversity in the Workplace & Unconscious Bias

·      How to Communicate Effectively

Software Carpentry instructor training offered through SEA.

Thanks to the UCAR Software Engineering Assembly’s partnership with Software Carpentry, UCAR and NCAR personnel can take advantage of some great instructor training to “teach teachers how to teach better.” Up to six people can sign up as a group to become certified Carpentries instructors. Parents’ Night Out is a great opportunity for you and your significant other to go out to dinner and a movie!

Contact Stephanie Ivancic, Director of KinderCare Learning Center at UCAR, to sign your child up from 6 pm - 8 pm ($30 for one child or $40 for two children) or 6 pm - 10 pm ($50 for one child and $60 for two children).

Children are welcome to wear their pajamas for a fun evening of movies and pizza! If your child has a video that he or she would like to share, bring it along! Please make sure it is labeled and let the fun begin! Siblings under the age of 7 are welcome, too.

We invite all UCAR employees to take advantage of this fun evening as your child does not need to be enrolled at the KinderCare Learning Center at UCAR to partake!
