Library Blog: Earth's Greenery Changing Patterns

Discover | Using the SUOMI satellite, researchers have mapped the distribution and density of the Earth’s greenery. The data from this map potentially could “provide early warning for disasters such as droughts, wildfires and even malaria outbreaks. And by integrating vegetation dynamics into weather forecasting models, meteorologists may be better able to predict runoff, surface temperature and relative humidity”.

Read more details and view an animated version illustrating how much the plant cover varies from week to week.
