2012 Community Gridpoint Statistical Interpolation (GSI) Tutorial

This is a reminder that the 2012 Community Gridpoint Statistical Interpolation (GSI) Tutorial still has space available for registration. This tutorial will be a three-day event (with the last half day optional) on Aug 21-23, 2012, hosted at the NCAR Foothills Lab.

This is the only opportunity to get a hands-on experience on this operational data assimilation (DA) system running everyday for the US National Weather Service. The GSI is traditionally a three-dimensional variational DA system and has been extended to include advanced features lately, including hybrid ensemble-variational data assimilation technique and four dimensional DA framework. This tutorial also features basic and advanced topics introducing the state-of-art DA techniques to the tutorial attendees, including introduction of DA, cloudy radiance DA, hybrid DA. It is a good opportunity for both novice and advanced DA system users to learn DA topics as well as how to use GSI. The speakers come from the primary GSI development teams at various operational and research centers, including NOAA, NCEP, NASA, NCAR and DTC. The practical sessions will provide essential skills to run GSI system with basic and advanced implementations.
