EXCEL 2010 CHARTS & PIVOT TABLES April 3, 2012 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm; CG2-CTTC Facilitator: New Horizons Instructor Learn to better analyze and visually display your data using Excel Pivot Tables and Charts. This course covers extensive techniques, tips and shortcuts for using these powerful, but underutilized, Excel tools. Outline - PIVOT TABLES: Creating, Sorting and Filtering data, Formatting Styles, Numbers, and Layouts, Grouping Data, Comparison and Total Options, Calculated Fields and Items, Combining Multiple Data Sources, Conditional Formatting PivotCharts. CHARTS: Creating, Modifying Design, Layout and Format, Creating Charts from Non-Consecutive Data, Drop-lines, Axis Formatting, Replacing Chart Series with Pictures or Shapes, Analysis Tools, Trending Tools, Using Secondary Axis, Highlighting Relationships Differences with Charts, and Combining Two Charts into One.
EXCEL 2010 FORMULAS & FUNCTIONS April 3, 2012 8:00 am – 12:00 pm; CG2-CTTC Facilitator: New Horizons Instructor There are literally hundreds of different kinds of formulas and functions to use in Excel – this class will focus on some of the more cross-functional ones that can be used across all types of business to improve spreadsheet performance and business productivity. Users of both Office 2003 and Office 2007 will benefit from this class. What are some of the best applications for Excel formulas/functions? Date & time, mathematical, text, database, financial, informational, statistical, logic, lookup, reference functions, and nesting IF statements.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT FUNDAMENTALS (2.5 day class) April 3, 4, 5, 2012 9:00 am – 4:00 pm; ML-Damon Room Facilitator: Krista Laursen Participants will learn basic knowledge and skills to plan, execute, monitor, control and complete successful projects. Small team work will provide opportunities to practice by working on a current project, or using a practice project. Topics Include: THE PROJECT ENVIRONMENT: How it supports/poses challenges to project conduct; MAKING THE CASE: Identifying/articulating the need, gaining organizational support; INITIATING THE PROJECT: Developing a charter, identifying stakeholders, setting expectations; PLANNING: Assembling the project team, gathering requirements, defining scope, developing schedules, estimating costs, building budgets, planning procurements, identifying/managing risks; EXECUTING/MONITORING/CONTROLLING THE PROJECT: Measuring progress, Reporting, Working with project teams, Dealing with change; CLOSING THE PROJECT: Reviewing, lessons learned.
MSWORD 2010 LEVEL 2 April 4, 2012 8:30 am – 4:00 pm; CG2-CTTC Facilitator: New Horizons Instructor Teaches intermediate-level features. Topics include: Formatting: Creating and modifying styles, outlining, using full screen reading view; Sections and columns: Creating and formatting sections; working with columns; Formatting Tables: Formatting basics, borders and shading, table data, table styles; Printing Labels and Envelopes; Templates and Building Blocks: Template and building blocks basics, document properties; Graphics, Diagrams, Drawing tools, and Formatting text graphically; Managing Document Revisions: Tracking changes and working with comments; Web Features: Web pages and hyperlinks.

SAFETY TRAINING FOR SUPERVISORS OF LAB/SHOP/MAINTENANCE WORKERS April 4, 2012 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm; FL2-1002 Facilitator: Milenda Powers Without the benefit of safety training and oversight, well meaning individuals can find themselves in dangerous situations! This session provides supervisors with tools and strategies for creating safe, healthy work environments. ACCESS 2010 LEVEL 2 (2 day class) April 10, 2012 9:00 am – 4:00 pm; CG2-CTTC Facilitator: New Horizons Trainer Learn to create complex Access databases by structuring existing data, writing advanced queries, working with macros, making effective use of forms and reports, and also by performing database maintenance. Restructure data into appropriate tables to ensure data dependency and minimize redundancy. - write advanced queries to analyze and summarize data. - create and revise Access macros. - display data more effectively in a form. - customize reports by using various Access features, thus making them more effective. - maintain your database using tools provided by Access.
CAREER ADEVENTURE SERIES: Strategies for Creating Satisfying Work April 11, 2012 10:15 am – 12:15 pm; CG1-3131 Facilitator: Christine Gust Where are you on your career adventure? Are you drained by the end of every workday? Do you feel unsatisfied in your current role, but unsure of what to do next? Are you inspired by an idea, but don’t know how to get there? In this three, 2-hour, mini-series, learn practical strategies to help you move through challenges and tap into greater resources, ideas, and opportunities for finding and creating satisfying work that works best for you! Module 1: Learn to recognize clues that help you focus on what you want, and how to get there. Module 2: Understand the importance of creating work that inspires you and how to align your knowledge, skills, and interests with emerging needs/goals. TECHNICAL & PROPOSAL WRITING BASICS April 25, 2012 8:30 am – 12:00 pm; FL2-1002 Facilitator: Janet Arrowood Learn the basic keys of successful technical writing, which are: build an outline, follow it, and know your audience. Topics include: Building an outline and using it as a document management tool; Making large documents clear and concise; Creating relationships between document sections to expedite allocating information and locating data between sections; Understanding what goes in a section and what doesn't; Learning to write using bullets; Managing sentence and paragraph lengths and structure to ensure clarity; making technical materials understandable to less or non-technical readers; Building a requirements matrix for proposals; writing to the interests and level of your most likely readers.
