NCAR's Community Art Program announces new exhibits in the cafeteria at ML. Oil paintings by lair are on display in Gallery I January 31-February 26. The artist enjoys interpreting the process of disseminating visual information in his paintings. Images tend to appear in simple forms or fragments. Sometimes they are structured and straight forward and other times they are a conglomeration of multiple perspectives. His paintings represent a glimpse of how he processes visual information.
Portrait collages by Paula Gillen are on display in Gallery II January 31-March 26. The artist’s portrait collages blur the line between caricature and realism, between one moment and many, and between flattery and parody. Her portrait collages are created by weaving and cutting the photo into shaped canvases and then back into a rectangle, like the shards of a shattered vase. This creative series explores fragmentation, nonlinear design, and manipulation of surfaces.
