April 9-17, 2011
UCAR’s COSMIC Program is providing an opportunity for senior-level undergraduate and graduate students who are U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents to attend and participate in a special "student session" of the Taiwan-hosted Fifth FORMOSAT-3/COSMIC Data Users Workshop, to be held in Taipei, Taiwan April 13-15, 2011. This meeting will be in conjunction with the International Conference on GPS Radio Occultation. The trip will include a student session, site visits to Taiwan's National Space Organization and Taiwanese universities, sightseeing in Taipei, and a local overnight trip (location to be determined).
FORMOSAT-3/COSMIC is a joint Taiwan/U.S. science mission for weather, climate, space weather and geodetic research. The mission, launched in 2006, deployed six identical micro-satellites and currently provides up to 2,000 daily radio occultation profiles in the neutral atmosphere, electron density profiles and total electron content arcs in the ionosphere, GPS scintillation observations, and TIP radiance products.
