Talking from 9 to 5: Women and Men in the Workplace

WORLS (Women Organizing and Leading Science) Monthly Event

19 November 2010, Noon-1:00pm, FL2, 1022, Brown-bag lunch WORLS meeting

Please join us to watch and discuss the movie, “Talking form 9 to 5 Women and Men in the Workplace” by Dr. Deborah Tannen. The movie addresses the different conversation styles between men and women in the workplace.

Dr. Tannen researched conversation styles at the workplace: when the ways in which men and women communicate can determine who gets heard, who gets ahead, and what gets done.

Talking From 9 to 5 brilliantly explains women’s and men’s conversational rituals---and the language barriers we unintentionally erect in the power games and miscommunications that cause good work to be underappreciated or go unnoticed---an essential tool for promoting more positive and productive professional relationships among men and women.”
