Boulder-based event: 2nd Annual Climate Change Symposium @ the Boulder Shambhala Center

The 2nd Annual Climate Change Symposium is coming up next week at the Boulder Shambhala Center. Here is a personal invitation to the UCAR/NCAR community from Emily Keeling Takahashi:

Many scientists at NCAR/UCAR are deeply familiar with the work of my father, Dave Keeling, and some of you may have known him personally.  What began rather innocently and obscurely in the 1950’s as a young scientist’s interest in (and obsession with) measuring CO2, has developed into a global catastrophe that needs immediate attention and intelligent, compassionate action.   To that end, I have devoted myself to the development of the Living Beyond Hope and Fear Symposium, hosted by the Boulder Shambhala Center Sept. 15-17.  This second annual symposium is designed for the greater community of faith practitioners, citizen activists, climate scientists, academics, artists, householders, elders, students and youth--in short, any and all who care about the future of our changing world.

Among the many offerings (which include interfaith dialogue, eco-action topics at the individual, civic, and national level, social justice, youth activism, exploring principles of warriorship from the Buddhist and other wisdom traditions) is one that may be of special interest to scientists.  Master storyteller Odds Bodkin will offer sessions on “Story Science,” or the art of taking climate science facts and weaving them into a compelling new narrative that speaks to the heart of humanity.

With deep appreciation for the profound work that scientists such as yourselves are doing on behalf of our planet, it is my great delight to make the NCAR/UCAR community familiar with this symposium, and to warmly invite you to join us. You can register here:
