Super Science Saturday - November 8

A free day of science and family fun at NCAR's Mesa Lab

October 29, 2014

BOULDER — For science exploration that creates learning opportunities for the whole family, come to this year’s Super Science Saturday at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). This free event will be held on Saturday, November 8, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at NCAR’s Mesa Lab in south Boulder.

This year’s event will focus on measuring weather. Explorers of all ages are welcome to join science experts in interactive science experiments. Activities include seeing how a weather drone works, analyzing the mobile “Doppler on Wheels” radar in action, assisting with weather balloon launches, and viewing a wind tunnel exhibit showing how weather is measured and studied.

Other highlights will include CBS4’s Mobile Weather Lab, which will be open for display; experiments with Colorado State University’s Little Shop of Physics; an opportunity to see University of Colorado’s unmanned aircraft systems; and NCAR 3-D Visualization Lab demos. The popular NCAR wizards will perform science demonstrations in the afternoon.

“Science can be exciting, and we want the public to understand the ways we measure weather and different tools we use in our research,” said Eileen Carpenter, science education specialist with the Center for Science Education at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR).

The event will be held at NCAR’s Mesa Lab at the west end of Table Mesa Drive in Boulder. The Mesa Lab’s exhibits and art galleries will be open all day for viewing. Snacks and lunch items will be available for purchase in the cafeteria.
