Instrumentation expert Tammy Weckwerth has been on numerous field expeditions to assure optimal data collection under challenging conditions. As a researcher in NCAR's Earth Observing Laboratory, she uses data from radars, lidars, soundings, wind profilers, cloud photographs, aircraft data, satellite imagery, and surface stations. Weckworth concentrates on mesoscale meteorology; more specifically, the organized structures within the planetary boundary layer (such as horizontal convective rolls) and the relationship between the boundary layer and the initiation of thunderstorms.
