paleoclimatology; computer modeling of climate with a focus on polar regions

A paleoclimatologist, Schneider studies past, present, and future climate changes. In particular, he focuses on Earth’s polar regions, using climate models and geologic records to test hypotheses about past and present Arctic and Antarctic climates. Recent research by Schneider and colleagues showed that Arctic temperatures in the 1990s reached their warmest levels of any decade in at least 2,000 years, providing new evidence that the Arctic would be cooling if not for greenhouse gas emissions.
