November 17, 2010 | A cross section of UCAR/NCAR retirees, veteran staff, and university faculty converged on the CU Stadium Club on October 5 to celebrate UCAR/NCAR’s 50th anniversary. The dinner was scheduled to coincide with the annual meeting of UCAR member and affiliate representatives, most of whom joined the celebration. It was a night of reminiscing and camaraderie that reunited staff from as far back as the institution’s founding years. A brief slide show encapsulating UCAR’s history was complemented by video clips from university faculty. And UCAR president Rick Anthes—after being roasted with photos from his childhood—was toasted in an unexpected way.
“The banquet was a great success,” says Susan Friberg (UCAR Governance), who organized the event with Aneka Finley. “It wrapped up our anniversary year in a fitting style.” Susan and Aneka send a huge thanks to all those who helped bring the event to fruition, especially Cindy Schmidt (OGA), who served as emcee for the evening. Staff from Event Services worked with CU to keep the crowd of more than 400 happy—and in a rare treat, they got to join the sit-down dinner themselves.
