March 15, 2011 | The GPS-based satellite observing system known as COSMIC will celebrate its fifth anniversary on April 15. About ten staff from UCAR’s COSMIC Program Office will be in Taipei, Taiwan, April 13–15 for the annual data users’ workshop, which is sponsored by Taiwan’s National Space Organization. A special reception is being planned by NSPO to celebrate COSMIC’s birthday.

March 1, 2011 | On February 25, UCAR president Rick Anthes announced in an all-staff email message that he would step down in December. “I have greatly enjoyed my time as UCAR president,” he said. “It has been amazing to witness and help support the achievements of our employees in research, facilities, and education. We have a first-class group of dedicated, talented staff.”

Or maybe your colleagues from abroad are visiting NCAR and you decide to gift them with a piece of research equipment. Although these exchanges sound innocuous, they are considered “exports” by the U.S. government and could possibly be subject to regulation.
