Helioseismology of the solar meridional flow
The Sun's meridional flow is a large-scale flow observed on both hemispheres of the solar surface. Detailed knowledge on this flow in the solar interior is important for understanding the solar dynamo action. Undesirably, over the bulk of the convection zone, the flow has not been seismically determined. With methods of local helioseismology the flow was measured only in the outer 15 Mm of the Sun in the past. Today, new approaches of global and local helioeismology are developed that promise measuring the meridional flow down to the bottom of the convection zone. In this talk I will describe these new approaches and the first results of these measurements.
