The Last Ocean

The Ross Sea, Antarctica, is unique. Protected by a 500-mile-wide shield of floating sea ice, it has remained largely insulated from the depletion that has plagued most of the global ocean.
Although it is the coldest, driest, windiest place on Earth, it teams with life. Many scientists believe that the Ross Sea is the healthiest ocean ecosystem left on the planet.
John Weller has spent almost a decade documenting the Ross Sea and helping to lead the fight for its protection.
