The term ‘export’ takes on additional meaning when put in the context of ‘export compliance’ with regard to US government laws and regulations. Were you aware that in some instances, just responding to an email or having a phone conversation in a help desk scenario could be considered an export controlled event? Failure to comply with export regulations can carry severe civil and criminal penalties, both for the individual and UCAR. This session is intended to provide a basic understanding of the complexities of export, including physical shipments of items to international destinations, as well as transferring, transmitting, and enabling access to certain controlled hardware, software, and technical data here in the U.S. A review of various resources available to assist in determining whether or not a project, activity or collaboration requires an export license, restrictions, or possibly be prohibited by law is also discussed.
