Did you know that every B-cycle bike share program across the country shuts down in the winter – EXCEPT right here at UCAR’s Center Green and Foothills Lab stations? UCAR and Boulder B-cycle are partnering on an exciting winter bike share pilot program, and hope to prove that riding the red bikes works just as well in winter as it does the rest of the year. While the rest of Boulder’s B-cycle stations will shut down from December 16 – March 16, you can still enjoy riding between CG and FL, or check out a red bike to ride wherever you like. The 60 minute time limit for borrowing a bike before fees accrue still applies, and you will only be able to return bikes to the CG or FL station, not to any of the other Boulder stations.
You can cast your vote for year-long Boulder B-cycle biking by checking out a red bike every time you need to travel between FL and CG, to run quick errands, or just to get a little exercise during your day.
In the event of heavy snow, ice, or extreme cold, Boulder B-cycle may need to temporarily shut down the CG and FL stations. Because Boulder B-cycle is the first program in the country to try operating stations through the winter, we may discover issues along the way. We appreciate your patience, and your feedback. Winter means you'll need to ride extra carefully and of course remember your helmet.
Thanks to you, bike sharing is already a success at UCAR/NCAR. In less than six months, 345 staff joined the program - that means 27% of all all annual members in Boulder are UCAR/NCAR staff! The Center Green and Mitchell Lane stations logged 1,800 check-outs, with numerous additional check-outs by UCAR members at other Boulder stations.
And if you don't have your B-cycle membership yet go to www.ucar.edu/sustainability (click on Bikes and follow the instructions).
See you on the bike paths!
