HOT OPERATIONS October 25, 2011 11:30 am – 12:30 pm; ML-Chapman Room Facilitator: Milenda Powers Learn to keep from burning down the shop and avoid having "arsonist" on your permanent record. Hot operations refer to work that involves open flames, torches and welding. The Safety policy and permit requirements for this work will be reviewed during this brief class. *Required every three years for employees who performs hot operations.
HAZARD COMMUNICATION October 25, 2011 9:00 am – 10:30 am; ML Chapman Room Facilitator: Milenda Powers Employees have the right to know about hazardous materials and how to protect themselves. Learn about the hazards of chemicals and how to use labels and Material Safety Data Sheets to protect against those hazards. Attending this class fulfills training requirements specified by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA). *Required once before working with hazardous chemicals, including industrial products. Refresher training suggested every 3 years.
CONFINED SPACE October 25, 2011 10:30 am – 11:30 am; ML Chapman Room Facilitator: Milenda Powers The number one goal of working in a confined space is to get out safely! If you ever need to enter confined spaces, like a tank, pit or manhole, this course is for you. Discussions cover hazards that claim lives of workers around the country each year, as well as how following the UCAR confined space policy will prevent that from happening to us. *Required once every three years for employees who work in confined spaces and for those who supervise this work.
HIRE TRAINING FOR SUPERVISORS October 27, 2011 10:00 am – 12:00 pm; FL2-1002 Facilitator: Nancy Wade Required for all hiring supervisors. Learn UCAR's Staffing Process; Employment Laws, Policies and Procedures; OpenHire System: Creating a Requisition and Reviewing Resumes; HR Baseline Screening of Applicants; Selecting the Successful Candidate; Determining Salary; Completing Interview Documentation Forms; Making the Offer; and Orienting Your New Employee.
