On Monday, September 26, wildfire mitigation work begins on the NSF-owned land around ML, FB, and the Walter Orr Roberts Weather Trail. This project will reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire by thinning dead, dying, or poorly formed trees. Detailed information available at www.ucar.edu/forest The project will last approximately 5-7 weeks, depending on weather.
Expect to see vehicles and forestry workers on site, and to hear noise. Some work will occur close to ML and FB, and in the parking lot. Parking spaces will be blocked off to accommodate work vehicles. We anticipate having ample parking available for ML and FB staff.
The Walter Orr Roberts Weather Trail will be closed for approximately 4 days starting Tuesday, September 27 . Hikers will be re-routed to the water tank access road.
For your safety and the safety of the work crew, please obey all posted signs and traffic control.
Project updates will be posted to www.ucar.edu/forest and Staff Notes Daily.
Thank you for your patience during the project. As we know from last year’s Fourmile Canyon Fire and Dome Fire, wildfire can present a real risk to safety. Proactive wildfire mitigation efforts will protect our staff, visitors and buildings while supporting a healthy local ecosystem.
