UCAR Emergency Alerts - FAQ

Who can use the alert service?

All NCAR and UCAR employees (full-time, part-time, and casual) and visitors holding the Visitor 1 classification.

The ability to customize the service by adding personal email and phone notification is also limited to NCAR and UCAR employees and to visitors who are classified as a Visitor 1.

When will I receive an alert?

UCAR Emergency Alerts are reserved for emergency situations and will be used to notify you about imminent threats to health and safety as well as significant outages affecting your location or work environment. The UCAR Emergency Response Team will send notifications regarding severe weather, flooding, gas leaks, police activity, campus or building closures, network outages and similar concerns.

How will I know that an incoming message is really from UCAR?

See the FAQ on the secure UCAR Member Portal (Everbridge website) for information on this topic (registration required).

What if I change cell phone providers?

If you change your mobile number, you will need to edit the mobile number you provided via this website. If you keep the same mobile number and simply change your cell phone provider, you do not have to change anything.

What happens if I don't customize my alerts? Will I still get emergency notifications?

If you do not choose to sign up here to customize the service, you will still automatically receive alerts via the UCAR email and business phone numbers assigned to you. That information is updated automatically and cannot be updated via this website.

How do I fix an error in the UCAR database that holds my business phone and email information?

If you are aware of an error in your business contact information, please contact Irena Haimsky in HR to make corrections.

How do I stop receiving notifications?

You can stop receiving alerts on your personal devices at any time by removing your contact information from your profile on the secure UCAR Member Portal (Everbridge website, registration required). Doing so will not affect receipt of alerts via the UCAR phone and email address assigned to you in your work capacity.

What is Everbridge? Will they or anyone else have access to my personal information?

UCAR has contracted with Everbridge, a company providing emergency alert services to a variety of universities, governments, and private industries. More information about Everbridge is available on their website.

Our contract with Everbridge assures that the information you provide on their website will be held in confidence and used for the purposes described there only. It will not be provided or sold to any third party.
