BOULDER—Veterans seeking work on the northern Front Range will have the opportunity to talk directly with employers at a job fair in Boulder on Tuesday, September 27. The event, co-sponsored by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) and Workforce Boulder County, will take place at UCAR’s Center Green campus at 3080 Center Green Drive in north Boulder.
A number of area companies are looking to fill more than 200 positions in sales, food service, manufacturing, security, computing (hardware and software), and supervisory positions, says Nancy Wade of UCAR Human Resources. “UCAR is committed to the unemployed veterans on the northern Front Range,” says Wade. “This annual job fair connects veterans with local employers in a very positive way.”
Representatives from these employers will be on site to talk about available and upcoming positions:
Workforce Boulder County staff will also provide information to veterans about available services and veteran benefits.
Last year, Alpine Lumber participated in the job fair, hoping to identify top talent to fill both hourly operations as well as management positions. “I brought two hiring managers with me and we were stretched all day talking with candidates about Alpine Lumber, and even conducting on-site interviews,” says Bob Bowman, Director of Safety and Human Resources at Alpine Lumber. As a result of the fair, the company made three job offers. “We are proud to offer excellent employment opportunities to our military veterans and look forward to participating in this year’s event,” says Bowman.
Workforce Boulder County estimates there are 4,200 veterans on the Front Range who are registered with the Workforce regions, and either unemployed or underemployed. “The UCAR job fair is an excellent opportunity to get in front of quality employers,” says Jim Moore, Veterans Employment Specialist at Workforce Boulder County. “We are grateful for the support we receive from UCAR, since without it we could not provide this important event.”
This is the second year UCAR, in partnership with Workforce Boulder County, has held a veterans job fair.
